The British Crimea War Medal with Sebastopol Clasp

The Crimea War (1854 – 1856) Medal Rolls

to the 17th Regiment of Foot (Leicestershire).

Transcribed by P. A. Capewell BSc.

There are approximately 2,500 entries listed in the index’s which are separated into seven files which are alphabetically ordered by surname.

Please note that the original documents consisted of lists of soldiers entitled to the Crimea War Medal and (where applicable) their entitlement to a clasp for a specific battle. The lists were sent to the British H.Q. from various camps and also f rom the general list and so many of the listed Soldiers names were duplicated on the actual medal rolls.

Every care was taken to transcribe the original  documents as accurately as possible but the rolls were hand written in the 1850’s and some entries (or part) were virtually illegible.

It should also be noted that the last column in the index’s refer to the page number of the 17th Regiment of Foot (Leicestershire) Crimea Medal Roll’s which are held at the (British) National Archives. Please be patient! Allow time for each page to load as the databases are large.
