Photograph Pinell_1 Please contact Ernest Hawkins at e.hawkins1@ntlworld.com A group of 19 Welsh Old Contemptibles. I would guess that the photograph was taken on Remembrance Day and perhaps in the 1930's. Ernest's Grandfather is second from the right (standing) and he was Gunner 36649 Daniel Pinell of the Royal Field Artillery.

Daniel Pinell originally served in the Royal Field Artillery between 1905 and 1912 and was a reservist between 1912

Daniel Pinell originally served in the Royal Field Artillery between 1905 and 1912 and was a reservist between 1912 and August 1914 when he was re-called to his Regiment. He was discharged in March 1920. Daniel was awarded the 1914 Star (Mons Star) plus Under Fire Clasp, The British War Medal and Victory Medal. He was also awarded four Overseas Service Chevrons (including the red 1914 chevron) and a Wound Stripe.

Only Daniel Pinell has been identified from the photograph so far. Can you help to identify Daniel's 18 Old Contemptible comrades? To see a larger version of the photograph please click here> Old Contemptibles

Photograph NEV1

The Photograph below is of C Company of the 2nd Battalion the Lincolnshire Regiment at Barberton, South

Africa in circa 1902. It is a wonderful photo and the majority of the Soldiers can be seen to be wearing the Australian style hats which were favoured during the Boer War and ammunition cross belts. If you can identify any of the Soldiers please contact me.
