This photo is of a group of Soldiers of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards who were finalists in the Evelyn Wood Competition of 1928. This is what Doug wrote about it, "Here is the image of the Evelyn Wood competitors of 1928 . My Father is Victor Robert Caunt and he is third on the left hand file of the photo with his hat slipped toward the back of his head. I would like to find out who are the other members of the platoon and the name of the place where the photo was taken. Could it be Pirbright in Surrey? From what I have found out Evelyn Wood was a General in the period around 1900 and was an army reformer. He introduced this competition at platoon level to develop the endurance of the ordinary soldier. I do not know what the test consisted of in 1928 but later it was a 12 mile route march with a shooting competition at the end of the march. It was, so I understand, still competed for up until the 1970s. then it was discontinued." Can anyone help Doug with further information ?
