Photo PCOLE 1 Contact Peter Cole at :- pacole37@smartchat.net.au This WW1 era photograph is something of a mystery to Peter. This is what he said about it " Attached is a photo of my father in WW1. He is on the extreme left of the Photo. His name is BERTRAM COLE. He was with the WILTSHIRE REGIMENT fighting near ARRAS AND AMIENS and was wounded at Trones Wood. He was a corporal at that time, then he was promoted to lance sergeant, then after a course at King's College Cambridge he was sent to SALONIKA with, I think, the YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. If the troops are in the trenches why are they not wearing steel helmets? What are the hats they are wearing? Are they officers or did the ordinary soldier and NCO wear that type of hat? Any information would be appreciated. The photo is very poor quality and is only about 50mm x 38 mm." Since Peter's message arrived we have established that the "white hat band was worn by Trainee Army Officers and in the early part of WW1 . Can you help Peter please ?
