Photo DYATE 2 Please contact Daniel Yates at :- dnyates@yahoo.co.uk This is what Daniel wrote about this unusual photograph "Another photograph purchased at an antiques centre in Lincolnshire. This time appearing to show five men (just visible) in a trench during one assumes WW1. I know nothing further about location, who the men are - but am incredibly curious as to why the soldier in the foreground is holding what appears to be a shepherds crook.

The trench itself seems hastily contrived. I would be fascinated to know if a) my assumptions that this is indeed a WW1 scene are correct, and b) if so can anyone enlighten as to any more specific details."

Photo DYATE 3 Please contact Daniel Yates at :- dnyates@yahoo.co.uk This what Daniel wrote about this group photo " This photo was uncovered in an antiques centre in Lincolnshire - it appears to show what may be 'signallers', but is inscribed on the back "August 1919" along with the words "Myself, centre man, G.E.S. I am curious as to the exact role of these men, and any clues on what part of the world they may have been serving in - there is a distinct colonial feel to the photo. "

Photo HUGHS 1 Please contact Michael Heeler at > michaelheeler@mac.com This what Michael wrote about this portrait, "This is COLIN HUGHES who lives at Cubbington near Leamington Spa, England. I think the photo was taken by a local (either Stratford on Avon or Redditch) paper. Colin was a SIGNALLER IN NUMBER 5 COMMANDO & took part in raids on LOFOTEN & DIEPPE, I also know he was evacuated from Dunkirk, but the subject of his war history was seldom discussed & as I have been in Western Australia since 1968 & have only seen Colin on a couple of occasions since 1968 I can provide very little further information, but the photograph may be of interest to your site".

Can you help Michael with any information about his Uncle's WW2 military career or perhaps information concerning Number 5 Commando in WW2?
