Please contact Andrew Harland at > andrew@skipsea.screaming.netThis is another interesting photograph from Andrew which was taken by Andrew's uncle who was a merchant seamen, and lost his life in WW2. Andrew believes that the photographs may well have been taken in Spain during the Civil War.
Do you recognise the uniforms of any of the soldiers ? Can you confirm or contradict the Spanish Civil war theory please ?

This is what Kevin wrote about these photographs " Attached is a picture of my grandfather William Drury (standing right) and his comrade "Shortie". William enlisted in the 2/5 Leicester's in 1914, saw service in Ireland during the 1916 Uprising and arrived in France in 1917. As part of the 2/5 Leicester's he served at The Somme (1917), Ypres (1917), Leivin and Cambrai (1917). By 1918 the 2/5 Leicester's were disbanded and William was transferred to the 11th (Pioneer) Leicester's. They were involved in the final push and the long march to the Rhine at the end of 1918. William was finally demobbed at Caterick in April 1919.
"Shortie" worked with my grandfather at Courtaulds in Spondon up to their retirement in 1964 I'd like to find out who 'Shortie' was and I'd like to know more about the 2/5 Leicester's 1914-1917 and more detail on the 11th Leicester's 1918/19. I'm particularly interested in finding further unit photographs and written accounts of both units. Particularly interested in the 11th Leicester's service in Germany 1919 as their battalion diary ends in December 1918. Finally anyone interested in the history of these two battalions may be interested in the site dedicated to my Grandfather" at:-
