Photo JABUR 1 Please contact Jeanne Raitt Flye at :-jflye@juno.com This what Jeanne wrote about this group photograph, "The attached photo is of a group of soldiers who may be from the 9TH BATTALION OF THE BLACK WATCH DURING WORLD WAR I. The photo was on a postcard and was sent from East Liss and postmarked the 30th of November 1914.
I can identify the soldier sitting in the second row, to the
drummer's left, as my great uncle, PRIVATE JAMES BURNETT from Barnes Stobs, HAWICK, SCOTLAND. James enlisted at Hawick shortly after war broke out and served with the 9th Battalion of the Black Watch. He was wounded at Loos and, when fully recovered, returned to France where he was killed in action on the 20th of June 1916. He was awarded the 1915 Star, British Victory Medal and British War Medal. Would be interested to see if anyone might be able to identify any other soldier and the place that the photo was taken." Do you recognise any of these soldiers? Can you help Jeanne with any other information please? To view a larger version of this image please click here >

Please contact John C. McMichan at > mcmichan@bigfoot.com This what John wrote about this photograph, " This one is of my Grandfather, JAMES ARCHIBALD MCMICHAN. I don't know any details. My guesses are that he is in EGYPT IN THE FIRST WORLD War. What is the uniform? It looks like an officer's uniform and yet he was never above the rank of Acting Sargent in the AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE, LIGHT HORSE REGIMENT. He enlisted in 1917 and was demobilised at the end of the war. He was 54 years old, but stated his age on enlistment as 44 years. Any information will be appreciated.

Can you help John please? Please also see Photo JCMC 2 on the next photograph page.
