Please contact Andrew Barnett at :- buck_barnett@madasafish.com This portrait is of Andy's Grandfather JOHN (JACK) PRICE of the LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT. Jack joined the Regiment as a Regular Soldier in about 1910 - 1912. It seems almost certain that he would have been a soldier of the 2nd. Battalion The Leicestershire Regiment as he was with the Regiment in India just prior to WW1. The battalion was returned to Europe in 1914. I now quote from the booklet "Royal Tigers", "The second battalion arrived in France from India with the Garwhali Brigade of the 7th Indian Division at the end of 1914. It went into the front line at Ypres. Both regular battalions took part in the spring offensive of 1915 on Aubers Ridge. The First battalion made a noteworthy attack on German trenches near Hooge and held them against counter attack. The 2nd battalion overwhelmed the enemy positions covering Neuve Chapelle."The following two group photographs of Leicestershire Regiment soldiers also feature JOHN (JACK) PRICE. If you can help Andy with any information whatsoever about Jack Price or these 3 photographs, he would be delighted.

This remarkable photograph that was sent in by Andy shows soldiers of the LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT (most likely the 2nd. Battalion) in late 1914 or 1915. (Note that cloth caps are worn rather than steel helmets)). JOHN JACK PRICE was seriously wounded some time after this photograph was taken. Jack can be seen in the centre of the front rank.
