A Great War marching song of the 4th Battalion The Leicestershire Regiment

(The verse was sent to me by Vivien Nutbeem).

We are the Leicester Boys, we are the Leicester Boys,

We know our manners, We spend our tanners,

We are respected where ever we go,

When you see us on parade open the windows wide,

All the girls begin to cry, "I tiddly, I tiddly, I ti, ti,

We are the Leicester Boys.

A verse for lost Tigers

This verse was also sent to me by my friend Vivien Nutbeem . Vivien discovered this verse in the book 'Footprints of the 1/4 Leicestershire Regiment' which was published in Leicester in the 1930's.

The author of this verse is unknown. I personally think of it as "a verse for lost Tigers"

It is entitled simply,

"R.I.P."

From Kemmel Hill to Bellenglise, from Lens to Dickebushe,

Through all the gory gamut, from "inspection" unto "push"

In perils oft, in weariness, in trenches, and in rum,

They waged the war to end all war until Thy Kingdom come,

From laughter loud to dark despair, from "leave" to "listening post,"

From lusty life at zero hour to puking up the ghost,

In agony and bloody sweat they paid the utmost sum,

To sleep the sleep that ends all sleep until Thy Kingdom come.
